How I became a personal trainer...

Growing up I was the fat and slightly nerdy kid, I was never interested in PE or playing sports at school and would rather stay at home watching TV or socialising with friends.

Only when I went to university did I discover that there was more to exercise than endless running and hours in the gym. Being a poor student I looked at exercises that I could do at home with little or no equipment. I started with push ups and pull ups and other bodyweight exercises and when I could afford it I experimented at a local gym with different exercises and equipment.

Instead of running I bought a skipping rope. Inspired by watching boxers train I tried to incorporate some of their training into my own workouts. I could also take this piece of equipment with me wherever I went and get a good workout, especially in the winter months when it gets dark early.

That was me next to Cat Deeley!

After graduating university I found a full time job, unfortunately this meant I didn't have the time anymore to workout properly. To overcome this I incorporated my workout into my daily routine, I would bicycle the commute to and from work, skip whilst waiting for dinner and do exercises in front of the TV in the evening.

After working that job for 2 years I decided to leave and take up personal training. I have a desire to help people and experience in workouts that can be done at home or with simple equipment. I think that using your body and learning to control it creates the best workout.

This principle guides my workout plans, in that you do not need complex exercises or specialist equipment to reach your fitness goals and sometimes the simplest ways are the most effective.
